Starry Night by Olivier Grade 233 viewsAs a whole class, we looked at the painting on the smart board. We discussed about what we saw in the painting. Students named objects, colors etc. We also described feelings and movements. Students studied the colors and the painting techniques that were used. Finally, we used the smart board to look at the spatial organization of the painting. The students were then asked to reproduce the painting. This one is inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's painting, "Starry Night." It was done using wax crayons on white paper.

Starry Night by Maika Grade 310 viewsAfter learning about Vincent van Gogh and his artwork, we created these “Starry Nights”. Keeping “foreground”, “middle ground” and “background” in mind we drew these with pencil, traced the lines with a black Sharpie and contrasted warm and cool colours with colouring pencils.Jun 16, 2011

Homage to Pollock by Samuel Grade 37 viewsFollowing a lesson about Jackson Pollock and a lengthy discussion about abstract expressionism, we created this “drip-style” abstract art by painting with tools other than a traditional paintbrush. We dripped paint, blew it around with straws, used various scrapers, rolled paint-covered marbles, dabbed cotton swabs, sprayed paint with toothbrushes, dragged the paint around with string, and scratched it with toothpicks.Jun 16, 2011
